Mercedes-Benz Engineer Wins European Safety Award![]() Want something European? Then check this out. 5月10日 Soon To Close: Ford Brook Park Facility![]() I thought the phase when all those job cuts and closed down facilities happened were already over. But it seems like it is far from over. I guess the Ford Motor Company just went on a couple of weeks of hiatus and they’re up at it again. Anyhow, let me just inform you guys that this car manufacturer has just decided to close yet another production facility of theirs. Of course, the reason behind this is that it is part of their plan so as to cut down their losses and help them get back on their feet. Although the plant to be closed would not be padlocked in just a couple of days, it still is a big factor for all those employees who would be losing their jobs. The company has already announced that their Brook Park facility in Cleveland would soon be stopping its operations in the year 2009. And in that process, around 1,100 workers would surely have to find another place of employment. This would be the only plant to close in that area. You see, the company has another plant in the state and that one produces engines. That one would remain producing those needed Ford engines. Jon Hinrichs is the company’s VP for North American manufacturing and he shares, “These are difficult actions, and we’re approaching them with great sensitivity because they involve our people. However, operating an efficient and competitive manufacturing business is a key to our Way Forward plan to transform our business back to sustained profitability.” That Brook Park facility is actually a casting plant. This one is responsible for creating crankshafts which are used for the company’s engines that come with four cylinders. This plant is also where other products like bearing caps and engine blocks are also created. On the other hand, Tim
Levandusky, the current president of the United Auto Workers for Local 1250 in
Brook Park, expresses, “It’s going to be very difficult. You know what’s
happening in the industry. The U.S.
auto industry has been hurting for some time now. We’re up against unfair
imports and trade laws and a consumer that doesn’t quite understand what it
means to buy products made here in the United States.”
5月3日 Huff Provided First Points for Chevrolet Racing Team![]() Race one of the 2007 World Touring Car championships gave us the taste of an exciting racing series that was held in the sporty land of Brazil last March. No one has ever been so excited and proud than the Chevrolet team when they garnered their first points in the racing championships. Chevrolet racing team fanatics should thank racecar driver Rob Huff for providing the first points for Chevrolet. We have to give all credit to this awesome driver for his hard work and determination! Chevrolet has been included at the top rankings of this event - we are getting thrilled and we can’t wait for the next race! We can hardly hit our car’s brakes right now because we can’t stop thinking about the next event! We are certainly thrilled! In behalf of the team, Rob Huff together with Nicola Larini, Alain Menu, Eric Nève and Mark Busfield gave their insights about the recent race in Brazil and they’re comments sure did make a significant mark on the Chevrolet Racing battle. Rob Huff (5th/DNF): “The first race went fine, except for some serious under-steer going into Turn 6, as well as accelerating out of that turn. So I had to solve that by lifting, turning in, smoothly going through the corner and then accelerating out again later than normal. For race two we changed the camber, which improved things. In race two, I had a brilliant start, running in third up to Turn 1, but then the car got away from me under braking as the pedal unexpectedly went long. I got hit by another car and that was it.” Nicola Larini (DNF/10th): “In the first race I had a good start until Yvan Muller pushed me off in Turn 1, extensively damaging my car. In race two, I had another good start, moving up from the back of the grid to tenth in the first corner. Unfortunately I got sandwiched there which damaged the splitter and destroyed the balance of the car. A couple of laps later the splitter fell off which restored the balance. After that I had a good race and making it to the finish is the just reward for the hard work the boys put in to repair the car.” Alain Menu (DNF/DNF): “I was the innocent victim of Turn 1 when Nicola’s car was pushed into mine, ending my race there and then as well. In the second race I immediately felt that the steering was not the way it should be, while under braking it felt like one of the shocks was broken. After a few laps I came in again as it would have been too dangerous to continue like that.” Eric Nève: “We showed that the performance is there, but unfortunately it quite showed, neither in qualifying nor in the races. We will keep on working in this direction and make sure we will be right there at the next race in Zandvoort in seven weeks’ time, which one could consider as the real start of the season, as from then on we will be racing every other weekend.” Mark
Busfield: “A positive thing this weekend is that team did a great job in
rebuilding two badly damaged cars from race one using every minute of the extra
time we now have between the two races to accommodate the TV schedule. This
allowed us to start race two with both Alain’s and Nicola’s cars and Nicola to
finish tenth whereas under last year’s timing his car would never have been repaired
in time. In all this is the testament of the improvements we made over winter
to increase serviceability and reduce time needed make repairs.”
