11月28日 Volvo to Recall 360,000 Cars
The defect is in the electronic throttle module and could cause the vehicle to shift into a “limp home” mode wherein the maximum speed is only 15 miles per hour. It was the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA that ordered the recall. The Volvo models that are included in the recall are the Volvo C70 and V70 models that are built between 1999 and 2002, S60 models built between 2001 and 2002, the S70 and V70X models built between 1999 and 2000. According to Volvo spokesman Christer Gustafsson, Volvo has already fixed the speed control problem of about 165,000 vehicles of the recall total after it has started sending notices to car owners last March. Ford is cutting down cost to offset the lost it has incurred for the first three quarters of 2006. Any amount saved out from the cutting down of salary will be used to implement Ford’s 401(k) plan. The lowering down of salary is not the only thing that’s going to happen. Ford will also trim down the size of its salaried staffs particularly in North America by 1/3 or approximately eliminating 10,000 positions by the middle of 2007. Reuters reported recently that Volvo is recalling about 360,000 cars due to a problem with vehicle speed controls which can cause engines to lose power without warning. 
To reduce traffic deaths due to drunk-driving, the US government and other private sectors plans to require alcohol detectors to all vehicles. Experts also agreed that the drunk-driving prevention system used years ago is no longer effective. Many drivers are still being caught intoxicated with alcohol behind the wheel even with the deterrents.
Ford Motor Co. has confirmed its plan of ruling out pay raises for its salaried employees in 2007. And that’s not all, salaried employees will also be asked to shoulder 30% more of their healthcare benefits. The said pay freeze as well as the change in cost of healthcare benefits will affect the take-home pay of Ford’s white collar employees.
